Service Scope, Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria

The purpose of this document is to clearly define the scope of the service provided by Allergy Nurture Care Ltd, outlining which patients are appropriate for the service and those who require alternative or additional care. This ensures that all care is delivered safely, within professional competence, and in line with regulatory expectations.

Service Overview

Allergy Nurture Care Ltd provides a nurse-led, remote advisory service offering:

  • Assessment based on a detailed clinical history

  • Evidence-based advice and education

  • Support for families managing allergic conditions

  • Guidance on dietary management and reintroduction

  • Ongoing follow-up support

The service is designed to support patients alongside NHS services, not replace them.

The service does not provide:

  • Diagnostic testing

  • Prescribing or administration of medicines

  • Emergency care

Inclusion Criteria

The service is suitable for:

  • Children, young people (0 to 17 years) and families

  • Adults where appropriate

Clinical Presentation

Patients with mild to moderate suspected or diagnosed allergic conditions, including:

  • Non-IgE mediated food allergy

  • Suspected food-related symptoms requiring assessment

  • Eczema associated with possible allergic triggers

  • Infant feeding concerns, such as reflux, colic, or constipation where allergy is suspected

  • Allergic rhinitis

  • Mild to moderate allergic symptoms requiring advice and support

Care Needs

Patients and families who would benefit from:

  • Detailed clinical history assessment

  • Education and understanding of allergic conditions

  • Advice on elimination and reintroduction

  • Ongoing support and reassurance

  • Guidance on when to seek further medical review

Exclusion Criteria

The service is not suitable for: 

 

Severe or High-Risk Conditions

  • Known or suspected IgE-mediated food allergy requiring specialist medical management

  • History of anaphylaxis

  • Acute allergic reactions requiring immediate medical attention

  • Severe or uncontrolled asthma

  • Significant respiratory compromise

Clinical Situations Requiring Medical Intervention

Patients requiring the following:

  • Diagnostic allergy testing

  • Prescribing of medication

  • Urgent clinical assessment

  • Hospital-based care

Emergency Situations

  • Any presentation requiring immediate medical attention

  • Suspected sepsis

  • Severe breathing difficulties

  • Collapse or acute deterioration

In these emergency cases, patients will be advised to contact 999 (emergency services), NHS 111, or the patient's GP.

Escalation and Signposting

Where concerns arise, the service will:

  • Advise patients to seek a review from their GP or NHS services

  • Provide clear safety-netting advice

  • Support onward referral pathways

Where IgE-mediated allergy or respiratory conditions are suspected, patients will be advised to seek further medical assessment.

Multidisciplinary Communication

With patient or parental consent, information may be shared with:

  • GP

  • Health visitor

  • School Nursing Team

  • Dietitian

  • Other relevant healthcare professionals

This ensures co-ordinated and safe care.

Consent

Informed consent will be obtained for:

  • Participation in the service

  • Sharing of information with other professionals

Scope and Limitations

Allergy Nurture Care Ltd provides advisory care only. The service:

  • Works within the nursing scope of practice

  • Does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment

  • Supports patients alongside NHS services

Review

This document will be reviewed:

  • Annually

  • Following changes to service delivery

  • Following incidents or feedback
